Are there any mountainous hiking trails near or around london england?

Posted By: Jeff Sherman  //  Category: Hiking

I’m having trouble finding hiking trails that resemble hiking trails over here in The USA.I just wanted to know if England(more around london or the closest to it if possible)had any tough hiking trails and not the flat trails i see in all the pictures on google. Can anyone name some for me?I would really appreciate it

Thee are no mountains near London.

You need to head to the Lake District in NW England. The mountains aren’t as high as some in USA but they offer challenging hiking. Have a look at the Wainwright books.

The Yorkshire Dales are moors, rather than mountains. However, they provide excellent hiking.

If you want to travel a bit further, go to the Highlands of Scotland. You will find very wild country.

Are there any hiking trails from Tuolumne Meadows to the Halfdome?

Posted By: Jeff Sherman  //  Category: Hiking

I was in Yosemite a few weeks ago and hiked from the Yosemite Valley floor to the Half dome Via the Mist Trail. I will be going back again in a few weeks but this time I will be staying at the Tuolumne Lodge in the Tuolumne Meadows. Does anyone who is a experience hiker and has been in Tuolumne before knows if there is a hiking trail from this campground to the halfdome?

1) You’re much closer to Half Dome from Yosemite Valley than you are from Tuolumne Meadows.

2) According to my guide book, the John Muir Trail runs 17.4 miles from Tuolumne Meadows at HWY 120 to the beginning of the Half Dome trail which is another 2.0 miles to the summit.

3) Thus a round trip hike would be 38.8 miles

4) A trip of that length would take two to four days of backpacking and camping overnight in the wilderness

5) But, good news! There are plenty of amazing trails around Tuolumne Meadows. I day hiked to the 13053′ summit of Mount Dana back in 2001 a few days after 9/11 and that was incredible, to say the least.

6) Depending on your abilities you could hike to the many waterfalls along the Glen Aulin trail, head up to Vogelsang Peak, or climb Mt. Conness cross country from Saddlebag Lake.

7) It could snow as early as the first week of October so carry chains, rain gear, and cold weather gear just in case, and the Tioga Road/120 isn’t plowed so you may not be able to reach Tuolumne Meadows if it does snow.

8) In case you’re wondering, the free shuttle bus between Yosemite Valley and Tuolumne Meadows stops running at the end of the summer.

9) Dude below is right, Tuolumne Meadows Lodge is closed as of September 18th, 2010, and even Tuolumne Meadows campground closes September 27th.

10) OMG, you’re the one!?!? Please don’t delete this question. Please choose a best answer. Not like this Trinity, not like this…
