Bassresource.com is a GREAT website to learn about bass fishing including things about lures, rods, reels, beginner kits, where to fish, when to fish, where the fish are, etc. I would highly recommend this website to old & young fisherman alike.

Also look at North American Fisherman magazine. They’re website is FishingClub.com and they have some great articles about lures, where to fish, when to fish, just like Bass Resource, but they focus on ALL types of fishing. From panfishing, to giant flathead catfishing, they cover almost all topics.

bassresource.com is a great site with hundreds of articles ranging from what lures to use, when to use them, information on fishing equipment, and information on fishing during the different seasons. I have spent hours on this site and it has helped me tremendously. Good luck fishing.

* Deep subject. Really. I also live in Upstate (Western) NY. Too many types of fish or water in Upstate for a short answer. Besides, there’s no difinitive method/lure for any specific species.

Deep trolling, spin casting, bait casting, jigging, bottom fishing, fly fishing, float fishing, bank fishing, bridge fishing, boat fishing, deep lakes, ponds, rivers, streams, spoons, buzz baits, plugs, plastic worms, surface lures, divers.

Watch a few fishing shows on the Outdoor Channel.
