Are there drinking fountains on walking/hiking trails in San Francisco?
Author: genglish | Category: HikingHi everyone. I just moved to the city and am trying to find a fun, cost-effective way to stay fit and healthy. Gym memberships are pretty expensive here, but I need to stay hydrated during my workouts. Can anyone recommend a good walking area that has water fountains to drink from? I live in Pac Heights so something close is preferable, but I’d like to know about other trails too. Thanks!
Hydrated? I never got into anything real sophisticated like that.
I just drink water and fruit juice and stuff and then all the hydration stuff doesn’t bother me at all.
To get the water and juice I carry bottles of it that are more versatile than hydration packs, cost less, and can be found at many locations all over the world, even in SF.
It also means I have water where there is no drinking fountain or other means of getting some.
To carry it I have a small day pack, which also has some good home-made food, not store-bought pretty boxes with some yukky artificial food substitute in them, and it also has a map if needed, some tissues for sticky fingers etc, whatever other few things I might take for the day’s walking, which might include a thermos flask of coffee or tea or a small camping stove and a pot so I can have a hot meat while I’m out on the trails. Fresh pancakes cooked on a small non-stick tray, or scrambled eggs, or a fresh stir fry or egg fried rice cooked in a small wok while the folks sitting a few yards away get out their store-bought triangular sandwich cases and eat whatever it turns out to be inside for three times the price of a plateful of freshly cooked hot food..
Watch their faces going crazy when they see the fresh goodies and get the sweet aroma of Nasi Goreng or hot lemon pancakes around them.
Gym prices are crazy too. A thirty pound bucket of stones or water at home weighs the same as a thirty pound gym weight.
A few miles of cycling or walking on the trails lets you see more than the equivalent distance going nowhere on a training bike or a rolling road or a walking machine in the gym.
And it’s all FREEEEEEEEEEEEEE….YiPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.
Have some fun. Mind the Sun. Take a hat. It’s better like that.
