    When I see someone …
When I see someone running with a dog I think the dog is thinking “Why does my owner think I”m having fun?” A dog on the trail would be hard on the dog, but then again, the dog likes companionship as much or more than people. It would surely take a special dog indeed.

My buddy got a dog …
My buddy got a dog on the trail. It was a stray that began to follow him and his buddies, they fed it alittle and of course the dog followed them. Some buddy at the next town gave him dog pack so the dog carried all its own food.

Marjority of Maine isn’t dog friendly so he send the dog to me to look after. Parts of NH aren’t animal friend either

    I see some people …
I see some people take a dog with them; surely not the entire trail?? maybe a day or 2 or 3..

Yeah… You will pick it up once you get there cause you can’t carry all the food if you are a thru hiker

i didnt like the mt …
i didnt like the mt house stuff, mostly because of the price & the quanity. i did a whole lot of ramen noodles, pb, bagels, instant oatmeal, instant coffee, trail mix, little debbies, twizzlers, rice, boulion cubes, gatorade mix, snack crackers & jerky. hamberger helper has some instant meals that are pretty good too. other than that i started gettin creative

    That Mountain House …
That Mountain House stuff is salty and pricey. Try some Lipton Pasta or Rice Sides and a chicken packets. You need some more dairy and less sugar in you diet … try mixing some extra powdered milk into your coco.
I’ll have to try that yogurt bars that you mentioned

  21. mdchesne Says:

    Good lord man, …
Good lord man, you’ve got at least a pound of packaging alone! Consolidate your oatmeal!, get rid of the jars, and repackage basically everything. You’ll be able to carry more foodstuffs and resupply less than every week.

    yeah, well you have …
yeah, well you have to figure out what works for you. too much sugar for me. and i have to cut those oatmeal packs with a regular, or it’s too sweet. and snicker bars– you can forget those in southern california unless you don’t mind licking chocolate off the wrapper. furthermore, those mtn meals are too salty. i have to cut those or noodle dishes with some unsalted couscous. i’m a vegetarian, so i don’t eat sausage, but i eat a little fish. i like that tuna idea. good suggestions.
