I ONLY recommend …
I ONLY recommend wool when hiking in cool/cold conditions. You never know when you might end up in a survival situation and if that does happen, wool is your best friend. Fleece is warm but nothing compares to wool!

March 31st, 2010 at 9:45 am
you obviously …
you obviously haven’t done any real sports or hiking then… or.. you just dont’sweat. Cotton aborbs your sweat, and if you’re in the cold while you’re swaeting – that’s no good for your thermoregulation. I like smartwool for my baselayer. Cotton has it’s place, and it isn’t on the trail.

For beginners it might be important to indicate the different needs for different seasons. For summer camping you wouldn’t need the down jacket and you could get by with a lighter weight fleece jacket. The parka could also be substituted for a lightweight alternative.
