trying to find hiking trails that go from auburn, ca to reno, nv? Anyone?
Author: genglish | Category: HikingI planning a trip before winter and want to hike from auburn, ca to reno, nv. Does anyone know of trails to might connect the two. I’m sure I’ll have to jump around trail to trail. Any ideas. Alls I have so far is starting in forest hill area for trails and also part of the rim trail in tahoe that goes along the 80 side. Thanks
I would find a hiking club and ask. A place where I would start looking is Fleet Feet. Also there is a shoe store in Old Auburn, I can’t remember the name but it is on a main street, that specializes in running, hiking and biking shoes. I think it is Auburn Running Co. but not sure. They will likely know the trails and paths you seek.
edit: Yes, that is the name of the store … google that and contact them.

I don’t know of any trails that would get you all the way from Auburn to Reno, but the Western States trail is not too far out of the way. This trail is used for the Western States 100-mile endurance run and goes from Squaw Valley (near Lake Tahoe) to Auburn. You would be hiking the trail in reverse. You could then link up to the Tahoe Rim trail to get a little closer to Reno. Here’s a link to a clickable overview map of the Western States 100 trail.

Click on a segement of the map to get a topo map and elevation profile of that segment.
Good luck!

Steve w answered best but THERE ARE trails that go across the sierra and lots of them, fire trails for days up there! I ride them often. also if all else fails walk the track across (original ones that are NOT in use lol) I’ve done that thru Donner summit and Truckee areas (freaky), anyways happy hiking good luck!
oh btw there is a club that hikes THE WHOLE sierra Nevadas from Mexico to the top of California? anyway the sierras. you should look into that! they just did there annual hike! I meet some people in sierra city recently WOW talk about endurance! amazing!
again good luck on the adventure!
