Hunting Girl – Jethro Tull (1977)

Author: admin  |  Category: Hunting

Title: Hunting Girl
Artist: Jethro Tull
Album: Songs from the Wood

One day I walked the road and crossed a field
To go by where the hounds ran hard.
And on the master raced: behind the hunters chased
To where the path was barred.
One fine young ladys horse refused the fence to clear.
I unlocked the gate but she did wait until the pack had disappeared.
Crop handle carved in bone;
Sat high upon a throne of finest english leather.
The queen of all the pack,
This joker raised his hat and talked about the weather.
All should be warned about this high born hunting girl.
She took this simple mans downfall in hand;
I raised the flag that she unfurled.

Boot leather flashing and spurnecks the size of my thumb.
This highborn hunter had tastes as strange as they come.
Unbridled passion: I took the bit in my teeth.
Her standing over — me on my knees underneath.

My lady, be discrete.
I must get to my feet and go back to the farm.
Whilst I appreciate you are no deviate,
I might come to some harm.
Im not inclined to acts refined, if thats how it goes.
Oh, high born hunting girl,
Im just a normal low born so and so.

    @AriochStarr You should check out Velvet Green. It’s off of the same album. Think of it as a song about some fun in the woods with a member of the opposite sex done in a Renaissance style.

    A lot of JT’s music in the early 70′s had a bit of Renaissance in them. In the 80′s, they started getting into more mainstream rock which did them in imo.

    I’m pretty sure my first experience with Jethro Tull was to slide around the kitchen floor on the LP from Bustin’ Out that had the Dambusters March on it when i was about 3, yet to live that one down, but have loved them since I was old enough to appreciate what music is. This has long been one of my favorite songs, next to March the Mad Scientist. First rate upload, my friend, thank you.

    Great tune from one …
    Great tune from one of Tulls’ top-4 albums. I was always into checking out Ians’ messages and this song is about mans’ timeless search for the ‘divine feminine’. When explaining it in physical terms as Ian has done with this song,you have a poetic rock n roll masterpiece.
